Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire

belvoir castle wedding

Belvoir Castle is one of the grandest wedding venues in England and one of the finest places to do wedding photography, mostly, because of the amazing surroundings and the castle itself – it has to be seen to appreciate! With magical hilltop setting, Belvoir Castle’s commanding position offers breath-taking views in every direction. The Castle’s turrets and gothic towers, sweeping staircases and grand open fires all add to the romance of your wedding day.

Belvoir, meaning ‘beautiful view’ in French, dates back to Norman times. The English pronunciation ‘Beaver’ was built up over many centuries through the inability of Anglo-Saxons to master French. From the elegance of the Elizabeth Saloon and the majesty of the State Dining Room to the delights of the Regents Gallery and the military splendour of the Guard Room, Belvoir possesses one of the most stunning interiors of the period. In contrast to the grandeur of the State Rooms, the Old Kitchen and Bakery fuel the imagination of ‘below the stairs’ life in 1825. While the School Room and Nursery allow children to experience games from Regency times. The Castle contains many notable pieces of art and includes paintings by Gainsborough, Reynolds, Holbein and Poussin. It houses outstanding collections of furniture, porcelain, silks, tapestries, French furniture and Italian sculpture.

Belvoir Castle is available to hire for both civil and religious ceremonies and there is also a great team committed to ensuring you and your guests have a truly memorable day! On glorious summer days you might like to enjoy the colourful Rose Garden in front of the Castle, or sip Champagne in the splendour of the Castle’s Picture Gallery, Ballroom or Guardroom. Wedding breakfasts are served in the majestic State Dining Room, with seating for up to 120 guests.

After spending the formal part of your wedding day in the Castle’s stately rooms you have the opportunity to go ‘below the stairs’ to continue your celebrations. Guests can choose to dance the night away in the atmospheric Old Kitchen, or relax on the comfortable leather furniture of the Old Servants Hall.
